Executive Director

Suzanne McKay is the Executive Director and Literacy Outreach Coordinator at Mission
Literacy in Motion. Since joining in 2015, she has created and facilitated programs like
Reading Buddies, Mother Goose, and Infant Massage, supporting families through early
literacy and parenting education. Passionate about the power of play, language, and
touch, Suzanne focuses on emotional and educational support, emphasizing mental
health and community connection. She believes literacy is freedom and the foundation
for a better future, especially through early learning and cognitive development.
Suzanne enjoys life with her husband, two adult daughters, and three pets. In her free
time, she loves gardening, travel, reading, walking, and home projects.

Deroche Outreach Facilitator

My name is Lisa and I am the Deroche Outreach Facilitator for Mission Literacy In Motion. Along with my work in Deroche, I also assist with literacy events, community outreach, workshops, programs and anywhere else I can roll up my sleeves and pitch in. But my favorite part of the job is when I get to read books to children and see first-hand the social and emotional benefits of early learning. When I am not working with Mission Literacy In Motion, you can find me caring for plants on our family nursery, working at my part time job with Fraser Health, or volunteering in the community. I am also a wife and proud mom of two grown daughters. I am passionate about literacy because I believe that life-long learning empowers individuals, connects families and strengthens communities.

Mother Goose and IPALS facilitator

My name is Viki Buchanan. I moved to Mission 24 years ago and attended my first Riot of Reading as a parent. I got involved in my child’s school as a volunteer for Erica Jurgens, our Aboriginal liaison and the coordinator for the First Nations Parents Club. In 2008, I took the Parent-Child Mother Goose training and still love the impact this program has today.

Outreach Assistant

Hi, I’m Jessica Day. Born and raised in Mission, I’m proud to call this amazing community home. I’m currently the Outreach Assistant at Mission Literacy in Motion, where I get to support programs that help children and adults build confidence and skills through Literacy. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of something that makes such a lasting impact.

At home, I’m a proud and busy mom to three amazing boys, ranging from toddler to teen, which means our house is always full of energy, noise, and a whole lot of love. It’s a wild and wonderful ride that keeps me on my toes every single day. Some of my favorite moments are watching the older two step into their roles as big brothers — reading stories, playing games, and sharing those small but meaningful moments with their youngest sibling. We’re also a family that runs on sports. From football fields and lacrosse sidelines to local hockey and soccer games, we’re always on the go and cheering someone on.

Whether it’s through my work or my everyday life, I’m passionate about building community, encouraging curiosity, and finding joy in the small, meaningful moments.

Adult One to One tutoring facilitator & Reading Buddy Facilitator

Hi, my name is Wendy. I am the Adult One to One tutoring facilitator & the new Reading Buddy Facilitator for both English and French. I have been reading and doing word games for as long as I can remember. I truly believe that strong literacy skills can open countless doors, and I love being part of something that helps make that possible. I always thought my dream job would be working in a library surrounded by books. While I never ended up working in one, I spent many happy hours in libraries searching for my next great read or just soaking in the atmosphere. I first came to Mission Literacy in Motion looking for support on behalf of someone I was working with. When I retired, I signed on as a tutor, and I love it! I am fortunate to be able to share this with other tutors and learners. Sharing a love for words and literacy is a passion for me.
