Meet Suzanne McKay. Suzanne started with Mission Literacy in Motion in 2015 as the Reading Buddies facilitator. She then took training to become a Mother Goose and Infant massage instructor. In 2019, Suzanne became the Family Literacy Coordinator and continues to facilitate Mother Goose and Infant massage. As Family Literacy Coordinator Suzanne creates and oversees the family literacy programs and works to identify any youth groups that need help. Suzanne has years of volunteer experience through her roles as PAC President and President of a Community Association. Through her volunteer experience Suzanne understands the importance of community involvement and connecting people to other suited organizations. Suzanne loves story telling in any form and belongs to a book club and writes movie and tv reviews for Canadian Military Family magazine.
Suzanne’s philosophy to early learning is to bring the parent and child together through play, language and touch, which includes songs, rhymes, oral stories and massage. The first bonding moments are so important and parents are the children’s first teachers. She also believes that mental health is incredibly important with our ability to learn. Suzanne’s goal is to give parent’s the “toolkit” to provide emotional guidance for themselves and children. If we do not feel okay mentally, we are not able to truly learn. Literacy gives people the tools they need to succeed in the world.
