The Reading Buddies program was created to ignite the love and interest of reading to emerging readers (grades 1-4) and to encourage and celebrate their efforts.
The volunteer (Big Buddy) and the young reader (Little Buddy) meet once a week for one hour, same day and time at the Mission Public Library. This program does not teach reading, it helps children with their reading. Student volunteers can use the hours towards their graduation requirement.

Numerous studies have shown the many developmental benefits of positive contact as part of a baby's early life. Touch is your baby’s first language and infant massage is one of the most natural and pleasant methods of providing this early nurturing contact.
Children learn and take in information from the world through all their senses. By providing activities to engage your child’s senses, you are helping to build new brain connections. During these sessions, parents will learn what senses are strongest in young children and how to best support new learning. Activities will focus on the sense of touch and how children learn through touch. Baby massage is proven to have countless benefits including improved growth and development, improved immunity, sleep, and bonding with parents. Snacks are provided.

Computers are the future and children need to know how to use them.
This is a beginner course showing children how to write their own computer programs and it will enable future opportunities in computer studies. The course of studies “Coderdojo” was developed in Ireland in 2011 and has been used around the world since. Our target age will be children 7 - 12 years old.
Literacy includes computer use and understanding.
All skills learned in the course are transferable to abilities in ongoing computer use. Writing computer code is an integral part of technology and a language skill as important as English/French in Canada. Coder Dojo provides the opportunity for children to learn at their own speed and be creative with computer design while learning this new language that has become a part of everyday life. It provides the foundation for future learning in the field and daily life.
Programs that are of interest and relevant to children and youth keeps them engaged in productive activities.
