Join us for 2016 Raise-a-Reader Events – Talk like a Pirate and Loonies for Literacy

We are participating in a province wide campaign to raise awareness around Literacy in British Columbia:

Raise-a-Reader

  • Is held in September every year
  • This September 2016 we will have a Raise-a-Reader Celebration and a fund raising event
  • The celebration will be held at the Mission Public Library in the form of a ‘Talk like a Pirate Day” on the 19th of September – everyone is welcome!!
  • From September 15th until the 30th we will have a fund raising event called: “Loonies for Literacy”.
  • Donation boxes will be placed in businesses through out the city of Mission – Please donate
  • All proceeds we raise during this event go to Free  literacy programming in our Community

Free Tutor Training

Join us for FREE Tutor Training:

An opportunity to learn how to work with adult learners who need help with a wide variety of topics… …..Reading, writing, math, computers, speaking english…. It is rewarding and requires about an hour a week of your time once you are matched with your learner.

Help change a life!

Training is at our office in Windebank Elementary School, Room 172, 33570 – 11th Avenue Mission, BC

Classes will run:

Thursday evenings 5:30-8:30 p.m. April 10 & 24 and May 1. Plus Saturday April 26th from 9-3:00.

A light meal will be provided at each class.

Volunteer Tutors Make A Difference!

Are you looking for a worthwhile challenge? Why not become a volunteer tutor? With your help, adults in our community can improve their literacy skills!

  • Writing
  • Math
  • Computers
  • Conversation

Benefits for volunteer tutors include: free training, the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to your community, and meeting interesting people, and gaining valuable teaching skills and experience.

Our next 4 week training session runs April 23 &30 (at Heritage Park Centre) and May 7& 14 (at Mission Library) from 6-9 each Monday night.
